Caterpillar recently released its 2008 Sustainability Reports, titled "Big Picture," to accompany its annual report, titled "Big Challenge."
The 2008 sustainability report includes detailed performance information and data and highlights specific projects that support Caterpillar's sustainable development efforts across the corporation.
The report highlights a number of goals the company hopes to achieve in its operations by 2020. Those goals include increasing energy efficiency by 25%, reducing absolute greenhouse gas emissions from existing facilities by 25%, using alternative/renewable energy sources to meet 20% of the company's energy needs, eliminating waste, holding water consumption flat and designing all new buildings according to LEED standards.
