Strategize. Innovate. Collaborate. CORE, a Denver-based nonprofit dedicated to promoting sustainable business practices, is pleased to announce that Hunter Lovins will be a keynote speaker at the 2011 Sustainable Opportunities Summit, to be held in Denver on April 11-12. CORE co-hosts the annual event with the Deming Center for Entrepreneurship in the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado Boulder.
"Climate Capitalism" is one of the four keynote topics at the summit. L. Hunter Lovins, President and Founder of Natural Capitalism Solutions, will make the business case for using innovative sustainability practices to drive profitability and mitigate the climate crisis. The co-author of 10 books and hundreds of papers on sustainability, Lovins will cite examples from her new book, Climate Capitalism, of corporations, start-ups, NGOs, and municipalities that successfully generate healthy revenue while cutting carbon emissions.
"Itís time for business leaders to step up and take responsibility for implementing a capitalism that best enables them to create the wealth that enables them to create ever greater wealth," said Lovins. "This is, after all, capitalism. Wealth is not just money and stuff. It is intact ecosystems; it is intact human systems. And, as business recognizes that real capitalism is the productive and responsible use of all forms of capital, we will unleash the prosperity that weíre all seeking."
The sixth annual summit, the largest business sustainability conference in the Rocky Mountain region. offers best practices from business leaders who are successfully integrating sustainability into business strategy. This yearís program features:
-Four keynote presentations, 18 breakout sessions, an expo with over 60 exhibitors selected to reflect the theme and topics of the program sessions
-Interactive sessions where attendees will learn how to best leverage sustainable practices to generate profits
-Speakers from a wide range of companies, including Prologis, Ball Corporation, Frontier Airlines, Kaiser Permanente, Chipotle, Aurora Organic Dairy, and Encana.
In keeping with COREís mission to promote environmentally and socially responsible business practices, Summit producers will implement green meeting best practices to limit power consumption, carbon emissions, landfill waste, and impacts on natural resources. Attendees are encouraged to offset travel emissions through the Colorado Carbon Fund. Producers chose to hold the Summit at the Marriott Denver City Center because of the hotelís greening initiatives, among other things.
This conference is designed for business, governmental and academic leaders and influencers who are interested in learning how organizations are realizing significant cost savings and market opportunities through strategic sustainability initiatives.
